Lent Day 14

“By letting go of what the world deems necessary for happiness, we are setting our souls free.” ~ Steve Case

Amen!

I started a “Happiness Basket” on January 1st this year. I have heard of other people doing that for a long time. I thought…”Hmm that is a great idea!” But I never made the effort to do it myself because a lot of the time I didn’t feel like I had much to be happy about. Today I am CHOOSING to be happy. And for me, it is more about gratitude. The more grateful you are for the things in your life, the happier you become on the inside.

I received one of those daily calendars for Christmas from my family. You know the ones that have beautiful scenery or a quote to read each day? And on the following morning you throw yesterday in the trash and start over. Well, I decided to write what I am grateful for each day on the back of mine and instead of throwing it in the trash; I place it in my basket. Some days I admit, it is more difficult to think of things to write down than others. But there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for in a day. Yesterday for example I wrote, “The popcorn I popped on the stove that reminded me of how my mom used to make it.” And some day when I am in a low place and cannot think of anything to write, I will reach into my basket and pull out that piece of paper and smile. 🙂

I encourage you to do something similar if you don’t already. Choose joy!

Blessings,
